The Architecture Foundation was hosting a series of events in November 2001 tostimulate debate on the future of London called "Calling London".AE was invited and projected their vision onto the gallery walls betweenthe hours of 15.30h ñ18.00h GMT. AE proposed the creation of sunset platforms. Despite London's enormous diversity we rarelyhave a strong feeling of what being a Londoner really feels like.What defines your urban identity as a London citizen? We rarely get a raised view on the city, an impression of the complex andbuzzing organism that is London - an idea of the whole. Sunset platforms are open for everyone to enjoy and use.These urban plateaus are at 7 storeys high overlooking Londonís terraces yetmoderate in scale. You will find them scattered across London with adistinct area flavour. Access is restricted to sunrise/sunset hours for safety and maintenancereasons, however, some can be hired for special occasions such as weddingsor photoshoots. Each plateau is accessible via lifts and access is free of charge. |
