This animated short about the history of rubber tapping in the Amazon rainforest introduces a new Greenpeace campaign which aims to re-establish the rubber industry in Brazil.
There is no one solution to save the Amazon Rainforest. A wide range of sustainable and effective initiatives are needed to keep the forest alive while improving the quality of life for the 20 million people that live there. Obviously this can only be achived, if economic alternatives and solutions to destructive logging can be found.
Rubber tapping is a traditional and ecological activity that has been part of the live of the Amazon since the beginning of the century. This activity does not damage the forest as it is not necessary to cut down a rubber tree to extract the latex.
